Hello everyone,
I’m RAC from RAC electronics.com. I guess I should put a disclaimer here: The information I post is from my research and contains my opinions. I do not represent any other business that I have a relationship with, be it employee, contractor, vendor or supplier.
Welcome to my first post for a newsletter that I plan on calling Jesus the tektōn (τέκτων). In my youth I saw bumper stickers that said my boss is a Jewish Carpenter. At that time I was not in a household that was particularly steeped in faith. My parents believed in god but did not go to church or read the bible daily. From that bumper sticker I got a chuckle and the idea that Jesus was a carpenter before his ministry started.
In 2022 I got really sick from an optical Myasthenia Gravis attack and was out of work for about 4 months. I came to have a relationship with Christ after a friend anointed me and prayed over me and hugged me in the name of the name above all names Jesus. I did not get immediately well. But my Neurologist after that anointment and prayer got my brain chemistry back in synch with the correct medicines I needed. I believe there is the power in prayer to heal, but it is not always instant. I believe that sometimes God moves people into your live and works through them to affect your health. Hence the reason that a new Neurologist on my case was able to get me out of my mental spiral/movement disorder that kept me pacing for about 16 hours a day. Eventually I will get my full testimony written in this journal/ newsletter. For now suffice it to say that after I was healed enough to get back to work and support my family I was all in for Jesus. After that my friend led me in recommitting my life to Jesus and gifted me a bible and started me on my relationship with the Lord and his word, The Bible.
In my bible studies I came upon the idea that the Hebrew word for craftsman, kharash was translated to tektōn (τέκτων) in Greek. I also learned from Tarah Leigh Cobble’s The Bible Recap that most of the building in ancient times and today in Israel were and are in stone. Wood was used more sparingly because it isn’t as readily available in the region as is Stone. So it’s likely that Jesus was more of a stone mason than a carpenter. So that bumper sticker should have said my boss is a Jewish stone mason and carpenter. See I eventually get around to completing thoughts. For those who were wondering what the Bumper sticker from the 70’s had to do with Jesus the tekton. I have spent many years working on Mini Mainframes and network engineering. I am a craftsman of electronics you might say. Although not a master craftsman such as Jesus was. So I think this craftsman connection enriches my relationship with Christ .
Bible Words -Section of newsletter where I list a few relevant Bible terms that hopefully enriches everyone’s Bible understanding
tektōn (τέκτων) – Greek for craftsman
Kharash. general craftsman. (Strongs: 2796). Needs other words to define the kind of craftsman
Christian Questions? – where I pose a question to get feedback from others of faith. Also non faith people. Although I will just delete any flaming of other people’s response. I think we should be able to disagree and discuss without Anger and Insults.
I am a craftsman of electronics. Which is something that I think makes my relationship with Jesus more personal. What do you feel enriches your personal relationship with Jesus?
